Autumn Skincare: Combat Cellulite with This Easy DIY Coffee Scrub
As autumn arrives, so do the seasonal treats like cookies and Pumpkin Spice Lattes! While these indulgences bring joy, many of us start noticing that maintaining smooth, firm skin can be challenging, especially as we age. No matter how much exercise we do, stubborn cellulite can be tough to reduce. This year, I decided to take a more mindful approach by researching how natural ingredients can help improve the appearance of cellulite. I’ve developed a DIY coffee scrub that you can use daily. Over time, regular exfoliation and the benefits of coffee’s caffeine may help improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of cellulite. With consistent use, you could start seeing results in just a few weeks!
The best part about using natural ingredients for home-made beauty products is knowing there are never any fillers. Each of these simple ingredients are beneficial and serves a purpose. Once you go down the rabbit-hole of investigating your beauty products, it’s hard to go back. Here’s why each ingredient in this DIY coffee body scrub is important and a great alternative:
Key Ingredients List:
Coconut Oil:
Coconut Oil has been shown to reduce cellulite all on it’s own. It contains a surprising amount of saturated fat that can fortify your skin cell structure and make the appearance of the surface healthier. This oil also contains lots of free radicals (not to mention antibacterial properties too) which heal old scar tissue and stretch marks. It can help with fine lines and firm and tighten your skin. The most popular 2 methods is to massage the oil into your skin for ten minutes, followed by dry brushing or to use a scrub like the one we’ll be making today.
This is a great recipe for a coffee lover. You can reuse old coffee grounds or use fresh grounds to make this homemade body scrub. The caffeine in coffee grinds is a great exfoliant that actually shrinks cellulite cells. Scrubbing in circular motion plumps your skin, making those little lumps look less obvious. By stimulating blood circulation you’re actually helping your body heal itself and release toxins under your skin. Caffeine also contains loads of antioxidants, making one of its skin benefits increased collagen production.
Brown Sugar:
Brown sugar has smaller particles and is softer and safer for all skin types than other sugars or salt scrubs. It is also a powerful exfoliate that removes dead skin for improved tone, texture and softness.
(For this recipe, I like to add a bit of essential oils, usually just a hint of Vanilla Extract to create a pick-me-up, vanilla-latte scent when I shower.)
How To Make A Homemade Coffee Scrub
- Clean your containers with soap and water.
- Carefully melt the coconut oil under running warm water. It doesn’t need to be liquid, but needs to be soft to mix well.
- Slowly stir your dry ingredients into the melted coconut oil with a spoon. Mix until you form a consistent texture.
- Store in an airtight container, like a mason jar, The scrub will get thicker once the coconut oil returns to room temperature.
Use everyday or 2-3 times a week on a regular basis for the best results!
How To Use:
For the absolute best results, use a dry brush before you hop into the shower. Dry brushing helps remove dead skin to allow your new scrub to penetrate the skin better.
When you are in the shower, apply your homemade coffee sugar scrub and rub for five minutes. Use it every time you shower for best results. If you are feeling brave, snap a photo of your “trouble-area” before you begin and again after 14-30 days to compare the difference! It’s just the best thing to see a noticeable change after you’ve been consistent with something. This little wonder of a scrub recipe also makes a good idea for a great homemade gift.
