DIY Coconut Oil Moisturizer
For a large portion of adult life, I’ve struggled with my skin. It seemed in high school, I could pass out after a late night with full makeup and never think twice about my skin, but as soon as 19 hit, BAM! Uncontrollable breakouts, irritated skin, and acne-prone skin. I really feel like I’ve tried everything. Drink more water, wash twice, use skin care products for sensitive skin, then something for acne prone skin. Use a face mask regularly, or take this mystery pill that somehow gives you dandruff- you name it, I feel like I tried it. Everyone has a different skin type, anywhere from combination skin to oily or dry skin. Not everything works for everyone.. but I got to thinking that no matter what, the more natural ingredients, the better, right?
For years I’ve believed that simpler, more natural alternatives are better and often work more effectively than harmful chemicals. So far, this DIY homemade face moisturizer has saved my skin in so many more ways than one.
-The natural oils moisturize itchy skin incredibly and leave my skin feeling incredibly soft.
-It fights breakouts, calms existing ones, and makes zits heal faster.
-It balances my facial skin. Before using it, I would get oily skin on my cheeks, my chin so dry it cracked on hot days, and I feel like I always had an shiny forehead. The best part? Now I’ll go days without wearing makeup and feel great in just my healthy skin. This diy face cream is really the best during the dry air winter months especially, keeping skin moisturized without a feeling of excess oil.
How does it work? Coconut Oil is one of natures greatest natural moisturizers. the fatty acids also have excellent anti-wrinkle properties, locks in moisture after you wash your face, and reduces stretch marks. Coconut oil is a natural cleanser, makeup remover, and cellulite solution. The acid in coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help smooth and calm inflammation in the skin. It also has antioxidants that help protect the skin from sun damage and free radicals. It’s an all around natural barrier!
Tea Tree Oil (otherwise known as Melaleuca) is the ultimate common ingredient in skincare with its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It’s a calmer of skin reactions, it reduces redness and literally can kill the kind of bacteria that causes acne. The trade off for all that goodness? It can be harsh if used alone. you need carrier oils to get the benefits! Coconut oil is the best option I found. This simple homemade moisturizer recipe gives the perfect balance of both for me and I hope it works incredibly for you too. Learn how to make your own homemade face cream below!
