Easy Whipped Peppermint Body Butter Recipe
Each year when winter hits I’m always surprised at just how dry my skin can get. I’m one of those unlucky people who has one of the dry skin types. My skin cracks and itches all the way until spring without much relief. I feel like I used every moisturizer out there and didn’t find real relief until I began making my own beauty products and diy recipes.
That’s why today’s DIY luxurious body butter comes with only simple, straightforward main ingredients. The best part? Aside from essential oils, this natural recipe only calls for three simple ingredients. Three.
Put some of this homemade whipped body butter recipe on your feet before adding on a fuzzy, warm pair of winter socks, and you will have a little bit of a pampering treat for them while you are sleeping. For full-on pampering, you could even douse your hands with this simple homemade peppermint lotion at night, and sleep with some small gloves on! Just a few ideas for you to take care of you.
Note: If you have incredibly sensitive skin, try this recipe first without any essential oils or fragrances. Then, do a little research to decide which oils are best for your unique skin.

- 2 Cups Organic Shea Butter (Or Unrefined Shea Butter)
- 1/2 Cup Avocado Oil
- 1 Cup Unrefined Coconut Oil
- Peppermint Essential Oil
- Cedarwood Oil
How To Make DIY Body Butter
To begin, melt the Shea butter and coconut oil on a double broiler over medium to low heat. I don’t know if you have one, but I don’t have a double boiler. There’s an easy solution. You can just take a small pot of water and stack a metal or glass bowl inside. The entire purpose is to get the heat from the boiling water to melt the natural oil evenly rather than burn on the stove. Stir as the mixture is melting and then remove from the heat once it’s completely melted.
Once the Shea butter and coconut oil cool to room temperature, add the Avocado oil and essential oils. I added 40 drops of peppermint oil and 25 drops of cedar wood oil. I know that sounds like a lot, but using this amount creates a light, fragrance that was still diluted enough for my sensitive skin. While I think the peppermint essential oil is essential for this recipe, you could also go with other fragrance oils like a citrus blend of your choice, such as orange or lemon. I also like using eucalyptus and lavender, both alone or combined with the peppermint oil. (This recipe here though is my favorite by far though!) Stir to mix and then let cool until it becomes opaque. I set my bowl in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
I mixed mine for about 20 minutes on low to create the ultra-light, fluffy consistency but the first time, only mixed for about 5 and had a more solid texture. You can mix to whatever consistency you like and, voila, it’s all done! An easy, great diy project for your own body butter.
Now spoon it into a bottle and enjoy! You can use a glass jar, or even wide-mouth mason jars, but I just filled 3 of these Plastic Jars with one batch after whipping the body butter to double it’s liquid size. I plan on saving one, and giving a few to some friends before I make more! It’s such a great natural alternative with a delicious scent.
